Soon, images can be moved straight from Google to Apple's cloud storage.
As part of the Data Transfer Initiative, Apple and Google have worked together to provide a method for directly moving photographs from Google Photos to iCloud Photos. This follows their 2021 partnership to facilitate simpler file transfers from iCloud Photos to Google Photos. The offers from Apple and Google will be released in the upcoming week, per an update on the DTI webpage.
Currently, if a user wishes to transfer photos, they must first download them from Google Photos and then upload them to the Apple iCloud. However, the direct transfer option will make this procedure much easier, allowing users to move photographs directly from Google Photographs to Apple iCloud without having to download and upload them first.
Apple claims that users may choose which iCloud photographs to import and share media visibility permissions with Google. The photos will then show up in a new “Import from Google” album within the photographs app.
An update on Apple's support page and Google's support page states that users with Apple accounts will be able to access this service in more than 240 nations and regions. If a user is eligible for the service, Google Takeout will provide the choice.
According to Apple, you can only move standard picture and video files to iCloud Photos. You shouldn't use other file kinds like Memories, Motion Photos, or Live Photos. All of the original file names, metadata, and descriptions should be present in transferred images.
Before you transfer to iCloud Photos:-
Turn on iCloud Photo
Turn on iCloud Drive
Make sure that you have enough iCloud storage
If you receive a storage error during the transfer, you can manage your iCloud storage or add more storage. Once you have enough storage, request another transfer. The additional transfer request won't add duplicate photo or video files to iCloud Photos.
Supported file types:-
- Only photo and video files can be transferred to iCloud Photos.
- Other file types, such as Motion Photos or Live Photos, or Memories, will not be transferred. JPEG, HEIC, PNG, GIF, TIFF, and BMP photo file types, along with most MP4 and MOV video file types, can be transferred.
- Any photo and video files that cannot be transferred to iCloud Photos, including RAW files, will be transferred to iCloud Drive.
Lastly, photos and videos will be transferred in the same resolution provided by Google for export.
How to transfer your photos and videos from Google Photos to iCloud Photos:-
- Visit Google Takeout.
- To begin an export from Google Photos, follow the steps.
- To transfer, select "Apple - iCloud Photos" and log in using your Apple ID.
- To add images and videos to iCloud, tap Allow to provide Google access to share the data.
On the Data and Privacy page of Apple, you can monitor the progress of your transfer or cancel it.
Apple notifies the email addresses linked to your Apple ID account by email when a transfer begins and when it is finished.
